If you had told us a few years ago that a pile of colourful dice and some wooden meeples would be the secret weapon in tackling isolation across Herefordshire, we might have laughed. But after our recent weekend at the Area 1-51 Comicon, we’ve never been more certain.

It was a whirlwind of a day. Between the cosplayers, the collectors, and the sheer energy of the convention, our Game of Scones table became a little island of connection.

More Than Just "Buying a Game"

We weren’t just there to sell games (though we did plenty of that!). We were there to meet you.

Our table was packed with treasures:

  • The "Adopt a Meeple" Station: Dozens of you took home a tiny wooden friend to join your gaming adventures.

  • The Dice & Trinkets: From gleaming polyhedrals to your own pet dragon, our gear found new homes with gamers of all ages.

  • The Stories: This was the highlight. We spent the day hearing about your favourite gaming memories, your most epic wins, and more importantly your journey with finding community here in Herefordshire.

The Big Number: £300 for Herefordshire

We are absolutely chuffed to announce that thanks to your generosity, we raised over £300 during the event.

In the world of business, £300 might seem like a small drop in the ocean. But for a mission like ours, it’s high-octane fuel. Every penny goes directly into our funds to keep our local sessions running. It pays for the hall hire, it keeps the kettles boiling, and it ensures that when someone feels brave enough to step through our doors for the first time, there is a proper brew and a fresh scone waiting for them.

Behind the jokes about "wood for sheep" and the excitement of a Comicon, there is a serious heart to what we do.

Isolation is a silent struggle, especially in rural areas like ours. It’s easy to feel tucked away and forgotten. Board games are simply the bridge we use to bring people back together. They give us a reason to sit at a table, a job to do with our hands, and a shared language that bypasses the awkwardness of small talk.

Whether we are at a massive convention or a quiet village hall, the goal remains the same: To ensure no one in Herefordshire has to play the game of life on their own.

What’s Next?

If you met us at Area 1-51 and promised yourself you’d finally come along to a session—this is your sign!

We have regular meetups across the county where the vibe is exactly like our Comicon table: friendly, slightly chaotic, and very welcoming. You don't need to be an expert, and you certainly don't need to bring a group. Just bring yourself.

Thank you, Area 1-51, for having us. And thank you, Herefordshire, for proving that we really are better when we play together.
